India Export Data

The export-import data bank is used by the private and government sectors for collecting data of Indian exports to imports in

specific trades, by the year. Indias export-import data is collected from Customs Port Centres throughout India. As per the

historical data, highest amount of export data of India was recorded in April 2008. In 2021, India was the thirteenth largest

export destination of US products, with almost $1.8 billion imports, up 3 percent over 2020.

India was the third-largest export destination for U.S. tree nuts, the fourth-largest for ethanol, fifth-largest for soybean

oil, and the eighth-largest destination for cotton. U.S. exports of soybean oil to India in 2021 more than tripled from 2020,

reaching levels not seen for over a decade, and becoming the United States third-largest market. U.S. exports of total farm

products to India in 2019 were a total of $1.8 billion, making it our 13th-largest farm export market. Trade in services with

India (exports and imports) totaled approximately $54.1 billion in 2019.

U.S. exports of services to India were estimated at $24.3 billion in 2019, up 4.8% ($1.1 billion) from 2018, and up 144% from

2009 levels. Between December 2020 and December 2021, Indian exports increased $12.2 billion (44.8 percent) from $27.1

billion to $39.3 billion, and imports increased $17.7 billion (41.6 percent) from $42.6 billion to $60.3 billion. The overall

Indian exports fell by $48B at 14.7% percentile level, comparing Indian export statistics for 2020 to 2019, according to data

by Mirror of India.

According to the Indian export-import data, the total exports of 2019 were $322.8 billion. According to the Indian 2020

import-export data, imports were 30.3 billion USD as of September 2020. In September 2020, Indias import-export data 2020

deficit was 2.7 billion USD.

India is a developing nation, which imports and exports millions of products. While India is one of the worlds most populous

countries and an important market for American agriculture exports, barriers to trade still pose obstacles to American

exporters. According to the Commerce Department, U.S. goods and services exports to India supported approximately 197

thousand jobs in 2015 (the latest data available) (82 thousand supported by goods exports, 116 thousand supported by services

exports).

As an importer, I have always felt compelled to evaluate my own competitiveness in a marketplace that is already very

competitive. This list is currently harmonised with MTCR and the Wassenaar List of munitions, and is administered by the

Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
